the truth is, across eastern libya for many months before the attack took place in benghazi, there was a troubling pattern of deteriorating security. not all of it was directed at the united states, but there has been a tendency, not just in case of eastern libya but i think across the world in recent years for us to focus too much on specific credible threat. and sometimes lose the forest through the trees. i think that's something that we were painfully reminded of in the case of the benghazi attack, and we need to do better at. there's some specific recommendations the accountability review board has made that we will implement relentlessly in the state department. we will certainly work with the rest of the intelligence community. >> finally, reading from the report again and having listened to both ambassador pickering and admiral mullen's, where they made it very clear that while there are many mistakes that were made, the outline and respond to do, that significant problem here is resources. we can either head in the sand or we can ultimately meet that challenge. wher

apparently related and causing secretary clinton to postpone her testimony on the benghazi terror attack. doctors say the blood clot is very risky. >> blood clots are serious depending where they are. the leg is more common and simpler to treat. lungs are more life threaten, into the brain of course, very, very serious if it is in the brain because of stroke and potential memory and injury to the entire brain. gregg: david lee miller is live in new york city with the very latest. and, david, what do we know about the location of that blood clot? >> reporter: gregg, the authorities have not released that information. they have only disclosed she is being treated for a clot. she fainted earlier this month and hit her head causing a discussion. the clot was discovered in a follow-up exam. the state department issued a statement. it said in part, and i quote, secretary clinton's doctors suffered a blood clot had been formed because of con caution she sustained several weeks ago. she is being treated and at new york presbyterian and can be monitored her condition over the next 48 hours. clint

rice has been caught up in this drama over the benghazi conflict and the deaths of americans in the assault on the u.s. consulate there. while susan rice was not responsible for security of the consulate, she did go on sunday shows and talk about the u.s. response there and she has been accused of deliberately mischaracterizing what happened. all sides -- or the white house has adamantly insisted and she has insisted that she in no way deliberately mischaracterized what happened. she was reading from unclassified talking points and nonetheless this has been caught up in a back and forth and, wolf, if i may, i'm going to read from part of her statement, her letter to the president and what she wrote in part, i am now convinced that the confirmation process will be lengthy, disruptive, and costly to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities. that tradeoff is simply not worth it to our country. the secretary of state may never be politicized. she says, i look forward to building on progress in your second term which seems to leave the door open to the po

that the political traction they could not get before the election in attacking the president for the benghazi attack, they would try to get instead after the election by attacking susan rice for the benghazi attack. they attacked her specifically for going on sunday morning talk shows after the attack and delivering the administration's talking points about what was believed to have happened there. it later emerged that those talking points were exactly what the intelligence agencies told the administration they should say about the attack. senator mccain described that as the worst cover-up he had ever seen in his life. he said it was worse than watergate. he said that that susan rice, she's not very bright. actually used that phrase about her, "not very bright." part of the reason susan rice became such a high-profile potential nominee was because of that criticism from republican senators. more than that, it ended up becoming a very high-profile potential nomination because of the president's response to that republican criticism. >> let me say specifically about susan rice, she has done exemplar
